Hispanic Heritage Month: How to celebrate Latino culture in Houston

Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off Friday and there's a wealth of festivities all over the area, from a salsa festival at Discovery Green to the Festival Chicano at Miller Outdoor Theatre.

The major movie opening this weekend is the latest Agatha Christie-inspired thriller, "A Haunting in Venice," starring Branagh, Tina Fey and Michelle Yeoh. But if you're in the mood for a Texas story, there's "Cassandro," with Gael Garcia Bernal and Bad Bunny, a film telling the true story of a gay El Paso wrestler.

You don't have to leave home to catch the anticipated film from Chilean director Pablo Larraín ("Spencer," "Jackie") as his "El Conde," a very dark comedy in which Chilean strongman Augusto Pinochet is reimagined as a vampire, hits Netflix Friday.

If you're looking for somewhere new to dine, check out the seafood-oriented Balboa Surf Club, the latest dining option in Uptown.

This is your last weekend to catch Houston Ballet's reinterpretation of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

Also: Fly fishing in Houston? Yep, that's a thing; swanky restaurant-lounge Drake's Hollywood set to open in Montrose; Houston teen with cerebral palsy wins "America Ninja Warrior"; Foo Fighters announce Houston show.

"Iconic Portrait Strand" at The Menil has 124 reasons why you should see it; Could Taylor Swift's concert film usher in a new wave of live music docs?; Holocaust Museum opens "Green Book" exhibit exploring the segregation-era life of Black travelers; Houston's Classical Theatre Company celebrates women for its 16th season; Sparklehorse's tragic music story gets a sad and beautiful encore.

Have a great weekend!
