HPD to halt chases for certain offenses in major change aimed at safety

Houston Police Department officers chased more than 2,200 drivers suspected only of traffic violations or of failing to stop for police from 2018 through 2022.

Those chases, which resulted in 137 injuries and eight fatalities, are now banned following a vehicle pursuit policy change announced by Chief Troy Finner on Thursday.
