Katy nixes proposed pickleball courts to keep tennis courts

Pickleball may be the fastest growing sport in the U.S., but the residents in Katy aren't impressed by it. The city had been working to upgrade City Park, when a developer suggested that part of that revamp should involve converting the tennis courts to pickleball courts.

The people of Katy took a very strong "absolutely not" stance on the measure, pleading with city council to reject the pickleball courts and instead improve the tennis courts.

In the end, the council sided with residents and voted to keep the tennis courts.

I think this story is a fitting allegory for Katy. The city is growing and bustling, but residents are not impressed by trends. The tennis courts are a beloved fixture at the park, and Katy residents don't want it torn down just because pickleball is popular right now.

What do you think about Katy's fight to keep its tennis courts? Let's chat about it.
