The Fort Bend County Judge is a Republican now. Here's what that means for the county
Last week, Fort Bend County Judge KP George declared himself a Republican, shunning the Democratic Party.
As you may recall, George is currently under investigation for alleged online misrepresentation and suspected money laundering involving his campaign finances.
This unexpected move has sparked widespread speculation about George's motives. Representatives from both parties have voiced strong opinions, but one thing is certain: our county has now turned red.
The Fort Bend Commissioners Court consists of five votes — four from the commissioners and one from the judge. Previously, with two Democrat commissioners and two Republican commissioners, George's Democratic alignment gave the Democrats the advantage. The county effectively leaned blue, as the split consistently favored Democratic votes.
With George voting Republican, the political pendulum just swung completely in the opposite direction.
The potential ramifications of this shift are unclear, but they are likely to be substantial. What do you think about our judge's decision to change sides? How do you think this will influence the future of our county? Email me — I'd love to hear your thoughts.
