Elections are right around the corner. Our newsletter course has everything you need to know.

The November election will be here before you know it, and it's a stacked ballot.

Even if you're not aggressively tuned into local politics like I am, this year's ballot has the president on it, so that's kind of a big deal.

But what about the other positions that are up for a vote? I'll be honest, I've worked in this business for a few years now, and I'm still not entirely sure what the railroad commissioner actually does.

The Houston Chronicle has a new way of bringing you the election coverage you need when you need it.

We're putting together a special short-term newsletter that will be jam-packed with everything you need to know.

Over the course of five days, our Texas Elections [Simplified] newsletter course will walk you through the major races and issues on the ballot this November. Learn what each political office is responsible for and who the candidates are.

Sign up for this special edition newsletter here.

And if you haven't already, check out our Texas Voter Guide for a crash-course on all things Election 2024.

One last thing ...

Could this really be it? The cold front we've all been waiting for?

"Across Southeast Texas, people are reaching for flannel as the region's first true taste of fall chill approaches from the northeast with the front," our newsroom meteorologist tells us. "You'll definitely want to prepare to dress in layers Wednesday and Thursday."

Alas, it won't last as long as we'd like, but it's a promising break from the heat.
