Today's starting lineup

The NFL's legal tampering period (an oxymoron if there ever was one) began Monday, and the dollars were flying around the league. Well, except maybe in Houston. Despite being one of the teams with the most salary-cap space available, the Texans didn't make what anyone would call splashy moves, although they did make a run at coveted running back Saquon Barkley. Jerome Solomon says that's no reason to panic. The Texans did lose sacks leader Jonathan Greenard to the Vikings along with linebacker Blake Cashman (Vikings) and running back Devin Singletary (Giants), Check out Houston's moves in our free-agent tracker. The best Texans news of all Monday? Defensive lineman Dylan Horton is in remission after being diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin's lymphoma.

After a scary scene the night before in Sacramento, the Rockets got some "very good news" Monday with third-year center Alperen Sengun having a badly sprained right ankle and bone bruises on his right knee and ankle, although he will miss at least several weeks, beginning with tonight's game in San Antonio.

At Astros spring training, Framber Valdez has junked his experiment with calling his own pitches. Meanwhile, players union boss Tony Clark pays a visit to talk baseball business and MLB's uniform debacle.

Few in the national media have more insight into UH  basketball than ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla. He discusses a variety of Cougars topics with us as the NCAA Tournament looms.

Stat of the day: 25.3. Points averaged by Rockets guard Jalen Green over the past six games.

No time to panic

Free agency is great for players who get big deals but is often overrated in terms of building a winning team, writes Jerome Solomon.

Not as bad as feared

Alperen Şengün has a badly sprained right ankle and bruised bones on his right knee and ankle, a diagnosis much better than what the Rockets feared after he went down in scary fashion Sunday night.

Astros / MLB

Never mind

Valdez briefly tried calling his own pitches with the PitchCom device, but he and manager Joe Espada decided it was best to give that job back to catcher Yainer Diaz.

College Basketball

ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla has been a staple when it comes to UH basketball this season, calling 10 of the Cougars' Big 12 games.

Master of deception

Texas State-bound Klein Collins senior Savannah Carter has set a school career record for strikeouts with plenty of season left.
