Nancy Drew, my spring break muse

Having grown up in lands far, far away from the land of spring break, I didn't become acquainted with this marvelous American phenomenon until seventh grade.

It was a plot point in a Nancy Drew Files novel called "Hit and Run Holiday." Eighteen-year-old Nancy heads to Fort Lauderdale for spring break with her friends, only for one of them to get hit by a car. Soon, they find themselves entangled in smuggling and human trafficking, but our heroine tackles the mystery head-on, all while sparking a romance with a dashing secret agent.

I grew up and made my way to the United States for graduate school, and thankfully my spring breaks were fun and not crazy like Nancy Drew's.

If you're looking for some local spring break fun in Houston, my colleagues have been compiling lists of great activities to check out.
