Busy block of West Gray poised for big changes in Montrose

A busy block on West Gray Steet is about to transform with a new 7-story condominium community and a separate complex with new restaurants, bringing further changes to the east Montrose area.

The developers behind the $30 million condo community, called The Madison, plan to demolish a row of aging fourplexes on West Gray to make way for the project on the same street as A'dor Kitchen & Cocktail, Midtown Bar and Grill. Down the street, a 7,800 square-foot retail complex by Therra Investments breaking ground soon is expected to house a new boba tea shop, a nail salon and a new location for the Vietnamese noodle restaurant Pho Ben.

"I'm seeing what's happening on West Gray there at the edge in the outskirts of River Oaks. Everything's getting a shot in the arm. The old is coming down for the new. The market is great," said Louis Tannos, president of Tannos Development, who is co-developing The Madison with Wolfgramm Capital. The projects add to the ongoing growth of east Montrose, where an 80-room hotel is also in the works in a key LGBTQ nightlife corridor.
