Three initiatives that are making the rodeo more accessible for people with disabilities
Houston Rodeo officials have taken multiple steps to improve the experience of guests that are disabled.
This year the rodeo team added an American sign language interpreter for all the events inside NRG Stadium, a sensory room in NRG Stadium and an ADA Handicapped bathroom.
The interpreter allows attendees to watch a live stream of the sign language translations of live events on their phones. Meanwhile, the sensory room is located near section 133 and allows people who are overstimulated to decompress. The new ADA bathroom is a mobile restroom designed to be accessible to everyone. It is located in the Junction area of the carnival.
Additionally, the rodeo continued the four-year practice of hosting Sensory Day this year on Feb. 28. During Sensory Day select areas of the park had minimal lights and sounds to accommodate visitors with sensory sensitivities.
Are there any other initiatives you'd like to see Houston Rodeo officials implement?
