What stood out most from Texas' loss to Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinals?
Chron sports editor Josh Criswell:
Technically, the Texas Longhorns lost the Sugar Bowl when three straight passes from the 13-yard line fell incomplete in the final seconds of their College Football Playoff semifinal matchup against the Washington Huskies. In hindsight, a disastrous third quarter is what ultimately caused UT's national title hopes to die late Monday night in New Orleans.
The Longhorns ran just five plays for 34 yards in the third quarter, recording as many turnovers and punts as they did completed passes (one). Meanwhile, Washington racked up 157 total yards—including 117 yards and a touchdown on 12 of 13 passing from star quarterback Michael Penix Jr.—while outscoring UT 10-0. The Huskies held the ball for more than 80 percent of the quarter.
