California Forever announces proposed ballot initiative, plan for new Solano County city – California Forever announced Wednesday its proposed city plans and the ballot initiative coming to voters later this year. The initiative promises many things, including over $700 million in funding for various projects, but it won't be official until the group collects enough signatures to put it on the November ballot. It's something they’re planning to do as soon as possible; the required 13,224 signatures will be collected from February through April, according to the Solano County Registrar. The announcement marks the first officially released plan for what could be coming to Solano County. Newsom: 'I will not sign legislation that bans youth tackle football' – California Governor Gavin Newsom doesn't intend to sign legislation banning tackle football for children. It comes as a bill, AB 734, from Democratic Assemblymember Kevin McCarty makes rounds through the legislature. This year's bill proposes an age requirement to play tackle football in California at 12 years old. If passed, the bill wouldn't take effect until 2026 and proposed amendments would gradually phase in through 2029. Read more here. Yuba County elections staff member exposed to fentanyl-laced mail – A Yuba County elections worker was exposed to fentanyl-laced mail, Yuba County said in a statement Wednesday. The worker didn't touch the substance and wasn't injured. According to Yuba County, an Elections Department staff member opened a piece of mail Tuesday and noticed a powdery substance. The mail didn't seem to be suspicious and was postmarked from a verified agency, according to the county. The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office did a field test, which showed it was fentanyl.
