Is Texas back?
In the Cheap Seats, Chron sports writers answer burning questions from readers.
What do you make of the Texas Longhorns' 2023 season?
Chron sports editor Josh Criswell:
After a decade of being largely irrelevant from a national standpoint, the Texas Longhorns made their long-awaited return to college football prominence during the 2023 season.
UT went 12-2 in Year 3 under head coach Steve Sarkisian, as the phrase "Texas is back" transformed from a joke to a reality amid the program's winningest campaign since its 2009 run to the national title game. The Longhorns were crowned Big 12 champions and made their first College Football Playoff appearance before losing a Sugar Bowl thriller to Washington in the semifinals.
The final rankings of the season are the latest indication that Texas has returned to its place among college football's top programs.
