A new face is expected to lead the Jersey Village Police Department this April after Chief of Police Kirk Riggs' retirement.
Riggs, who joined the force in 2019 as interim chief, announced his retirement in November that will go into effect April 1, according to Mayor Bobby Warren's recent January newsletter.
Riggs was first named as the city's chief of police in 2020, bringing years of experience to the department. As he goes into retirement to spend more time with his family, another familiar face may be seen around the area.
The police chief position was offered to Lieutenant Danny Keele, also a member of the city's police department, according to city manager Austin Bleess. At this time the appointment is not yet official, but Riggs expressed confidence in Keele's ability take on the role.
Warren said Riggs plans to spend more time with his family and has left the department in better shape than he found it.
Riggs said he wanted to thank everyone in the Jersey Village community for being so welcoming when he first started.
