Today's starting lineup

The North Shore Mustangs say they play for the name on the front of their jerseys, as well as the one on the back of them: Eastside.

Before North Shore became the best football program in Houston, Jerome Solomon writes, that side of town didn't have many bragging rights on the local high school sports scene.

Now, North Shore is the standard. Saturday's loss in the Class 6A Division I title game to Duncanville doesn't change that.

Summer Creek lost its title game as well, falling to DeSoto, but the school's first trip to a state title game will leave lasting memories.

Port Neches-Groves has plenty of moments to cherish after beating Dallas South Oak Cliff in Class 5A thanks to a big gamble from its head coach.

Switching to the NFL, the Texans are making a gamble of their own perhaps against Tennessee. Houston will likely go with Case Keenum at quarterback to replace C.J. Stroud, who is in concussion protocol. Keenum, 35, hasn't been active all season and has been the No. 3 quarterback behind Stroud and Davis Mills.

It was an exciting day of college basketball at Toyota Center. No. 4 UH held on to beat Texas A&M and No. 19 Texas beat LSU. The Aggies and Wade Taylor IV showed they can play with anyone, despite the loss. And Texas got better with the return of Dylan Disu. However, the Cougars lost guard Terrance Arceneaux for the season with an Achilles injury.

Toyota Center's regular team, the Rockets, are on the road against Milwaukee as they go for their fifth straight win.

Stat of the day: 27. Points in a row for Texas Tech to beat Cal in the Independence Bowl.
