'Like a war zone' | Barrage of illegal fireworks light up south Stockton sky – It's been 82 days since the Fourth of July, but a nearly 15-minute-long firework show lit up the sky above southeast Stockton Saturday night and police say they are now investigating it. According to the Stockton Police Department, around 9:40 p.m., dispatchers started getting several calls about fireworks being set off in the area around Ernie Shropshire Park. Officers and firefighters got to the area around 10:02 p.m., but the people allegedly setting off the fireworks had already left, leaving behind trash littered all around Shropshire Park, police said.

Man stabbed in face during 20-40 person brawl in south Sacramento – One person was stabbed and taken to a hospital following a big melee in south Sacramento Sunday night. A spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said the fight was reported at an apartment complex along the 5500 block of Sky Parkway around 8 p.m. Deputies described the fight as a 20-40 person brawl where a man was stabbed in the face and another was left with a head injury. Both were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

Ahead of winter hibernation, black bear encounters on the rise in California – A black bear was caught on camera taking refuge from the weekend crowds under a stairwell of a popular North Lake Tahoe restaurant. The Placer County Sheriff's Office, the California Fish & Wildlife Dept. and the Bear League were called to respond to Za's Lakefront. The bears are trying to gain weight before hibernating, so it's important for people in the area not to keep any food in their vehicles, keep windows and doors locked, and crawlspace openings sealed tight.
