How Lake Creek became one of the top football teams in Texas

Go down the checklist of what makes a great high school football team.

Lake Creek meets all the criteria this season.

A potent offense? The No. 4 state-ranked Lions are averaging 58 points and 431.2 yards per game.

A defense that consistently gets stops and generates turnovers? The Lions are allowing 19.8 points and have 14 takeaways.

Superstar talent? Junior Tyvonn "Ty Ty" Byars is as electric as they come.

After a historic 2022 campaign, Lake Creek is looking to push even further this season.

Read more about how the Lions got here.

Three weekend takeaways

Tomball Memorial opens eyes: The Wildcats are on a roll and had high school football fans doing a doubletake while sorting through scores this weekend. Tomball Memorial set a new program record for points during a 79-33 victory against Klein Cain in District 15-6A action. Quarterback Aiden Martin is one of our weekly top performers for his efforts in the contest.

K-Park gaining momentum: Kingwood Park improved to 4-1 with a victory against Crosby on Saturday evening. The Panthers have won two consecutive district games with a big matchup against first-place La Porte coming this week. Kingwood Park has been stout on defense recently, surrendering just 18 points over its past two games.

Big Katy ISD matchup looming: District 19-6A title hopes will be on the line this week as Jordan takes on No. 9 state-ranked Katy in one of the biggest matchups in the Houston area. Jordan is 4-0 for the first time in program history and will try to knock off the Tigers, who are aiming to capture their third consecutive district championship this year.
