Teen entrepreneur opens chicken wing place in Missouri City

Missouri City is now home to Sienna Wings, a chicken wing restaurant owned and operated by Shark Tank-winning teen entrepreneur Tyla-Simone Crayton.

"Sauce Boss" Tyla-Simone is the CEO of Sienna Sauce, a six-figure business enterprise.

Sienna Sauce is sold at H-E-B, Target, Wegman's and other national stores, but opening a restaurant is a "full-circle moment for me," Tyla-Simone told the Chronicle.

The first "Sienna Wings" operated out of Tyla-Simone's home in Missouri City in 2017.

Two years back, I had the privilege of interviewing this exceptional young woman. Our conversation revolved around the trip to Los Angeles (10 days, three Covid tests) where Tyla-Simone and her mother appeared on season 12 of Shark Tank. Tyla-Simone secured a 100K investment with designer Kendra Scott.

What impressed me most about Tyla-Simone was her eagerness to share her experiences and expertise with other young people.

"I've been speaking a lot to the community and just letting them know that entrepreneurship is an option," she told me. "Because I know as a Black woman growing up, a lot of times, they set the bar lower for us, which makes no sense because we are some of the most driven and invincible people out there."

Shout Out

Congratulations to all of us for making our way through the peak of summer. The "peak" of summer refers to the historically hottest part of the season. According to 30-year climate data taken from George Bush Intercontinental Airport, summertime high temperatures peak from Jul. 29 to Aug. 12. Temperatures will start to decrease a bit faster as we head towards fall. By the start of October, average highs will be down to 87 degrees. We'll finally start to see more fall-like weather by the start of November.
