It's alligator gar season and the prehistoric looking fish is out and about in the Houston area and the gulf coast. This guide will help fishers learn how to catch the fish with smaller hooks while letting them stay alive and safe for the next fisher and improving the the chance for the threatened species to subsist.

This young fisher caught an 8-foot alligator gar last year using cut tilapia with a small hook, choosing to release it afterwards.
