| We shouldn't be surprised that the Texans fired Lovie Smith but the decision at a little after 10 p.m. came a bit faster than expected. It was perhaps a fitting end to a crazy day for Houston. The Texans beat the Colts with a dramatic finish, lost the No. 1 pick and then fired the coach. So what next? We'll hear from Nick Caserio and Cal McNair late Monday afternoon, but here are a few names to consider as the next leader of the team. As for Sunday's game, Davis Mills was equal parts flawed and talented in leading the comeback, which cost the Texans the No. 1 pick in the draft. Jerome Solomon has the final report card of the season. Sunday also marked J.J. Watts last game. The former Texan went out in style with Arizona. The football spotlight on Monday turns to the College Football Playoff title game. TCU's appearance against Georgia is not only big for the Horned Frogs, but also the Big 12. Joseph Duarte has the key things to watch in the game. Also in colleges, the UH basketball team kept rolling along with a win over Cincinnati on the road. In the NBA, the Rockets had a 20-point lead against the Timberwolves yet found a way to lose again. Stat of the day: 7. Games the Texans have won the last two seasons under David Culley and Lovie Smith, the first head coaches hired by Nick Caserio. |
