  'Delta is finding the unvaccinated' | COVID-19 cases surging again in several California counties – Cases of COVID-19 fueled by the highly contagious Delta variant are not letting up. Placer, San Joaquin, and Stanislaus counties are all seeing record-high COVID cases. And health officials say the patients coming in are younger. "Delta is finding the unvaccinated and spreading very efficiently," said Placer County Health Director Dr. Rod Oldham. Now, Placer County's health department has put out a recommendation to wear an N-95 mask indoors over a surgical mask or any other mask. He said that the city intends to invest in disadvantaged communities with real resources. It's a plan that involves $112 million dollars in federal funding from the American Rescue Plan. “We should be able to get some or most of this money out within the next couple of months. Believe me, I am as impatient as anyone because I want to see the results,” Mayor Steinberg said. (Chris Thomas, ABC10) How California looks to pay drug addicts to stay sober – California may become the first state to pay drug addicts to stay sober. It's called contingency management and the federal government has been doing it for years with military veterans. Research shows it is one of the most effective ways to get people to stop using drugs like cocaine and methamphetamine. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has asked the federal government permission to pay for the state program through Medicaid. Meantime, state lawmakers are considering their own plan.
