Montgomery County commissioners moving forward with new courthouse in Conroe
Greetings, Montgomery County friends,
The Montgomery County Commissioners Court is moving forward with a new county courthouse to replace the current 1930s-era courthouse on the downtown square.
On Thursday, the court approved a plan for a new $250 million, seven-story courthouse on county-owned land in downtown Conroe, including space for a new tax office.
Judge Kristin Bays of the 284th state District Court said the judges are out of space and the project can't wait much longer. There is a plan for the current courthouse as well.
Plans have been submitted for the current courthouse built in 1936 to be renovated with a Texas Historical Commission grant of $3-4 million. The wildest part of the plan for me, is the additions from 1966 would have to come off because they're not original to the building.
I look forward to telling you about what's next for the new Conroe development. But, what do you think should happen to the nearly century-old courthouse? Let's chat about it.
