Why Creed fandom is inspiring 'divorced dad' dress-up at the Houston rodeo

A TikTok joke turned into a real-life meetup when two women in their 30s, Cassidy Vinyard and Jordyn Smith, organized a "Divorced Dad Dressup" gathering for Creed's RodeoHouston concert tonight.

More than 400 people joined a Facebook group planning to attend in early-2000s staples like Affliction shirts, visors, chains and rhinestone-pocket jeans.

Creed — the late-'90s band behind "Higher" and "With Arms Wide Open" — has seen renewed interest since reuniting in 2023. While often labeled "divorced dad rock," the band's audience now ranges from longtime fans to nostalgic millennials and younger listeners discovering the music through their parents.

What began as a joke has become a communal moment built around the band's earnest, emotional appeal, Sarah Smith writes.
