METRO announced Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, the expansion of its microtransit partnership with the City of Houston and Evolve Houston to include service in Second Ward, Third Ward, and downtown Houston.

Exclusive: Why Metro ditched a $4.1 million Houston microtransit pilot plan.

An internal review recently obtained by the Houston Chronicle is shedding new light on concerns over a microtransit pilot program.

Known as the Community Connector, the program offers short trips in some Houston neighborhoods, providing flexible transit options for passengers. It was overseen by Metro and formerly operated by Evolve Houston, a nonprofit championed by Metro Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock and Mayor John Whitmire.

According to Octavia Johnson's reporting, the analysis found that 43% of rider requests went unfulfilled in the pilot program, among other issues.

As you'll see, those findings show what led to the Metro board's decision to change from Evolve to a Metro-led program in December. It was then when officials abruptly scrapped plans to spend $4.1 million to extend the program under Evolve's oversight.

When we learned that Becks Prime was about to close one of its west Houston locations, we admit to being a little confused as to which one.

Was it the one with the big trees? There are at least three of them that would qualify.

Actually, the one shutting down after 35 years is the one in the 11000 block of Westheimer at Wilcrest.

You have until Sunday afternoon to drop by for a final bite to eat.
