Have Trump's historic gains with Texas Latinos lasted?

One year ago, voters returned Donald Trump to the Oval Office.

Some of that support came from the Latino community. In fact, more than half of the state's Latinos, who account for 40% of Texas' population, voted for Trump. For Democrats, any hopes of turning the state blue, or even purple, were dashed.

Is that support still holding up? Well, according to Sam González Kelly's reporting, new polling indicates that Trump may already be losing the inroads he made with Latino Texans. When you look at why that's the case, a few issues stand out.

Kelly spoke with some of those voters about the direction Trump has taken in his second term. Reaction is mixed, they say.

  • Texans: Once a sleepy AFC South battle, the rivalry between Houston and the Jacksonville Jaguars grows more intense with recent history and playoff implications.
  • Aggies: TSU, which played Gonzaga to start the week, stayed within 5 of Texas A&M in first half before falling in College Station.
  • Astros: Chas McCormick and Luis Garcia are off the Astros' 40-man roster and can reject an assignment to the minors in favor of free agency.
  • Cougars: As UH watched the replay of last week's 45-35 upset loss to West Virginia, the inability to stop the run — along with a season-high four turnovers — was a key factor in the most disappointing loss of the season. Also, defensive lineman Carlos Allen Jr. is expected to play against UCF.
