No Kings protests planned for Houston, surrounding suburbs today. Here's what you need to know.
Protesters plan to gather in Houston and surrounding communities today as part of the nationwide No Kings demonstrations countering a multimillion-dollar military parade and President Donald Trump's 79th birthday.
When and where: The Houston protest is set to begin at 10 a.m. at City Hall. There will also be protests in Sugar Land, Katy, Cypress, Conroe and League City.
Law enforcement presence: Gov. Greg Abbott said he's deploying more than 5,000 Texas National Guard soldiers and more than 2,000 Texas Department of Public Safety troops across the state ahead of the planned protests. However, Houston-area leaders rejected the offer for federal help.
Law enforcement agencies such as the Harris County Sheriff's Office have said there will be zero tolerance for violent or destructive protests.
