| Justice Dept. probes California over Title IX concerns tied to trans student law – The U.S. Department of Justice has opened an investigation to determine potential Title IX violations in California over AB 1266. AB 1266, also known as the School Success and Opportunity Act, is a law requiring students to be able to participate in school programs, activities and facilities consistent with their gender identity. Governor Jerry Brown signed it into law in August 2013, and an effort to repeal it the following year failed. The Justice Department says the investigation will determine if California, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), and the Jurupa Unified School District is engaging in a pattern of discrimination on the basis of sex.
