There appears to be a hiccup in the Texas Senate's plan to expand access to medical marijuana for people with chronic pain.
State Sen. Charles Perry, R-Lubbock, put a clause in the bill that some believe could be interpreted to mean that chronic pain sufferers can only qualify for medical marijuana if they first have been on prescribed opioids for at least 90 days.
The concern among other legislators is the potential of exposing these patients to opioid addiction by requiring they be prescribed to it for access to medical marijuana.
On Friday, members of the Texas House rejected Perry's amendments.
