Welcome back to Houston Chronicle Live, a weekly newsletter that keeps you updated on all the virtual newsroom events we're hosting this week and beyond.

For some of us, Spring Break has arrived. The kids might be sleeping in, but we've got an extra exciting day today at HC Live, discussing one of the most important health concerns right now: measles.

Dr. Peter Hotez, a professor of Pediatrics Molecular Virology the Baylor College of Medicine and famed infectious diseases expert, will join our health reporter Evan MacDonald to discuss the ongoing outbreak in Texas. With rates of routine childhood vaccinations declining, outbreaks might become more common. Fortunately, we've got the expertise that will help protect you and your loved ones, and there will be time for audience Q&A. There's still time to reserve your slot here if you have not done so.

Then, we've got another two special guests lined up. More details on that date and time below.

In just a few hours, Chronicle readers are invited to join us for a private Zoom with infectious disease expert Dr. Peter Hotez this afternoon at 1 p.m. CST.

He will be joined by the Chronicle's health reporter Evan McDonald. Together, they will discuss the measles outbreak in Texas, the rise in outbreaks due to declining childhood vaccinations, and ways to protect your family.

Hotez, a distinguished physician-scientist and global health advocate, serves as the Dean for the National School of Tropical Medicine and Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Molecular Virology & Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine.

Katy Mayor Pro Tem Chris Harris and Mayor Dusty Thiele.

Coming up in two short weeks, we've got Katy Mayor Dusty Thiele and Mayor Pro Tem Chris Harris logging on with us on Thursday, April 3 at 12 p.m. to talk all things Katy.

Sworn in as Katy Mayor in May 2022, Thiele is a longtime Katy resident, business owner, and community leader with 35 years in the insurance business and nearly a decade of city board experience.

Chris Harris has served Katy City Council since 2018 and Mayor Pro Tem since 2019. He is a board member of local ministries, a foster parent, and a volunteer firefighter with a background as a notary and licensed pilot.

Don't forget, they'll take your questions live too, so if you haven't secured your spot, now's your chance.
