Best thing you ate and saw at the rodeo?

We're only five days away from the end of rodeo season in 2025. Today we're asking Carol Motsinger, director of digital storytelling here at the Houston Chronicle and the woman editing many of the rodeo stories featured in this newsletter, what her favorite tastes, sights or sounds were at the rodeo.

What's the best thing you ate?

Carol: As soon as I walked through the gates, I went to Trill Town to grab an OG Lemonade. There is something about a fresh-squeezed lemonade that I always associate as a carnival treat. I have probably enjoyed a hundred of these at fairs and rodeos across the South. Trill Burgers is among the best I've had. Well-mixed, the right amount of sugar and ice, and was about the size of my head. I still drank it all within minutes!

What's the best thing you saw?

C: Edna, who was working the ticket booth, welcomed me with the biggest smile and called me "ladybug." So, before I even made it into the rodeo, I felt a real sense of connection and community. It really helped set my mood for the long lines or crowded corridors. After all, we are all there to have fun, so let's have some!

What's the best thing you've eaten, seen or heard at the rodeo this year? Hit reply and let me know.

Our "Grumpy" Rodeo Tips

Looking for a special treat to eat featured in the Chronicle — specifically chocolate covered bacon.  I asked 4 different information kiosks to no avail.  Fortunately at the 4th food booth I was sent to (which sold funnel cake but I was told to get the bacon there??), someone overheard my request for the chocolate covered bacon and knew exactly where to go.  My tip is to remember the name of the booth, not the product you want.
