Former Channelview star Jalen Hurts is headed back to the Super Bowl after a historic performance for the Eagles

Happy Monday!

Well … Channelview's finest has done it again.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts helped lead the Philadelphia Eagles back to the Super Bowl on Sunday with a historic performance during a 55-23 victory over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game.

Hurts, who starred at Channelview High School while playing for his father, Averion, completed 20 of 28 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown. But he also added three scores on the ground, giving him the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in NFL playoff history with nine. The previous record of eight was held by Hall of Famer Steve Young.

Hurts and the Eagles will once again match up with the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl in New Orleans. Hurts accounted for four touchdowns during a 38-35 loss to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl two years ago.

The Eagles have some strong Houston-area representation. In addition to Hurts, there are four other local players on the roster: defensive lineman Moro Ojomo (Katy), punter Braden Mann (Cy-Fair), wide receiver Ainias Smith (Dulles) and safety Tristan McCollum (Galveston Ball). The Chiefs, meanwhile, have zero Houston-area players. That being said, any neutral spectators from Houston have some hometown kids to root for.
