The preliminary election results are in. Here's what to know about your local elections
Election Day is wild when you think about it. One single day has the capacity to flip the landscape of our country. Even when major shifts don't occur, it's still an interesting forecast of what the next four years will hold.
We woke up this morning with a new president — or an old one, depending on your perspective — but there were many smaller elections that carried a lot of weight behind them.
Fort Bend County was a hotbed for some tense races. Here's a quick run-down of some of the most impactful results in our area. (Note: these are preliminary results. We don't announce official results until the votes have been canvassed.)
Two races in Fort Bend were especially animated. Republican Andy Meyers held his seat against challenger Taral Patel. Eric Fagan, the Democrat incumbent for Fort Bend County Sheriff, also held his seat against newcomer Marshall Slot. The win was narrow: the most narrow victory I've ever seen in this county. Check out the details here.
Other results of note include:
Troy Nehls, Republican, held his seat in U.S. Congressional District 22.
Republican Joan Huffman retained her seat in Texas Senate, District 17.
Newcomer Matt Morgan, a Republican who defeated predecessor Jacey Jetton in the primaries, won House District 26.
Democrat Ron Reynolds held his seat in House District 27.
Gary Gates, Republican, was re-elected to House District 28.
Democrat Suleman Lalani claimed House District 76.
Stan Kitzman, a Republican running unoppposed, won House District 85.
County Commissioner Pct. 1 Vincent Morales, a Republican, ran unopposed, retaining his seat.
County Constable Pct. 1 Republican Chad Norvell, also unopposed, was re-elected.
Democrat Daryl Smith retained his spot as County Constable Pct. 2.
Newcomer Ali Sheikani defeated Democrat incumbent Nabil Shike in his re-election bid for Constable Pct. 3.
Democrat Patrick Quincy won the seat for Constable Pct. 4.
What do you think of the outcomes? Let's chat about it.

Shout out
Enthusiastic high fives go out to Katy ISD's Navy JROTC unit, based at Mayde Creek High School, for achieving an impressive third-place overall finish at its first drill meet of the season.
Throughout the event, the unit showcased its skills across multiple group categories, including Armed and Unarmed Exhibition, Armed and Unarmed Regulation, Color Guard, and Inspection. This strong showing highlights the team's dedication and marks a promising start to the season, a press release from the district said.
