Newsom's gas price bill heads for a final vote today – The California State Senate passed Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposal to stop rising gas prices in the state. ABX2-1 requires oil refineries to maintain a minimum inventory level to decrease price spikes during peak driving months, and to monitor when refineries undergo either planned or unplanned maintenance. ABX2-1 heads back to the Assembly for a final vote on Monday, Oct. 14. Lathrop Police Department forming new traffic unit – As the state’s fastest-growing city continues to expand, so is its police force. The two-year-old Lathrop Police Department announced it will be forming a traffic unit. For people who live in the city, speeding, distracted driving, red-light running and not stopping at stop signs can do more than just damage a car. In a letter posted to social media, Lathrop Police Chief Stephen Sealy said that in the next few months, the department will hire three motorcycle officers and a sergeant to work full-time in a new traffic unit. Stockton triple shooting survivor returns to football field – King Gammage isn't much of a talker-- unless the 6-year-old Stockton boy is on the field. From the sidelines to the stands, everyone seems to agree. "Player of the game twice in one season... It's like, that's a big deal," sad Gammage's mom Aahielah Johnson. "He's leading the stretches now." Just nine months ago, however, life tackled the 6-year-old. "My son was hit in crossfire on December 16. He was sitting in the car at a store, and the bullet nicked his hip, which impaired his walking completely," said Johnson of the triple shooting in downtown Stockton. "In the beginning, it was very difficult because I wished that I could take his pain away." Police have yet to make an arrest in the shooting, but ask people with information to call CrimeStoppers. TIP OF THE DAYMonday is a federal holiday in the U.S. known as Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples Day. However, in California, it's not an official holiday for state employees. Here's what's open and closed. Students at a Kentucky school went above and beyond in helping lift a young classmate, quite literally. In a Facebook post, the tables in one of the school's maker spaces are great for everyone except Sophie, who uses a wheelchair. The tables do not lower to her height, so the students built a platform so she can work at the same height as everyone else. |
