Can anyone dethrone Katy for the 19-6A title? Jordan might have the best shot this week.

Happy Thursday, and welcome to Week 8 of the Texas high school football season!

The marquee matchup in the Houston area takes us to Rhodes Stadium on Friday night as No. 13 state-ranked Katy takes on No. 20 Jordan.

Both teams are still undefeated in District 19-6A action, and the result of this battle will go a long way toward deciding who takes the crown.

🏀 Houston teams earn preseason rankings

Wednesday marked the beginning of practices for girls basketball teams around the state of Texas, and the boys will embark on their seasons next week. The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches this week released their annual preseason rankings, and there were plenty of Houston-area teams that made the cut across several classifications.

Here's a look at the Class 6A girls rankings:

Stat of the day

🏈 17: The number of consecutive regular-season wins for the Willis football program. The No. 16 state-ranked Wildkats (7-0, 5-0) will take on Conroe (6-0, 4-0) in a battle of unbeaten District 13-6A teams Friday night at Moorhead Stadium. Willis, led by coach Trent Miller, is averaging 53.1 points and 485.7 total yards per game this season.
