Hurricane Milton leaves Florida behind as at least 11 deaths reported

Hurricane Milton made landfall on Siesta Key on the Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday night as a major Category 3 hurricane with 120 mph winds as the state endured an assault of at least 19 tornadoes that resulted in at least five of 11 reported deaths so far.

Five people are confirmed dead in the area of the Spanish Lakes Communities in Fort Pierce, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office. On Thursday, neighbors picked through rubble while first responders continued to check for bodies. St. Lucie County deputies had transported hundreds of people to hospitals and responded to as many as six tornadoes.
