Good afternoon, Houston!

It's a busy baseball day for us here locally.

Texas A&M entered the day perfect in the postseason and just one win away from capturing the university's first national title since 1939 in one of the "big three" men's sports: football, basketball and baseball.

Meanwhile, the Astros are at Minute Maid Park trying to complete a weekend series sweep of the Baltimore Orioles. The Astros have won three consecutive series and five of their last six, so things are looking up.

Decades-old Italian restaurant Damian's in Midtown to shutter this summer

The longtime favorite red-sauce restaurant, which has deep ties to the Mandola family, will close on Aug. 17.

A 12-foot mural of the life of Henry Warren Sewing, a native Texas who founded the first Black-owned bank in the Midwest, was dedicated at the Black Archives of Mid-America in Kansas City in March 2024. Sewing is the great uncle of Houston Chronicle columnist Joy Sewing.
