'AK Guy' wants a recount
If you thought the runoffs were old news by this point, think again!
YouTuber and gun rights activist Brandon Herrera said he's going to request a recount after his narrow loss to U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales in the GOP runoff last week. Herrera came up short by about 400 votes, and while he doesn't think the recount will change the outcome, "the voters are very insistent we do one."
Herrera's campaign gained national attention this year as he fought to oust Gonzales, a two-term San Antonio Republican. He was familiar with the limelight: Herrera, known online as "The AK Guy," has amassed more than 3.4 million subscribers on YouTube.
Herrera said Gonzales wasn't conservative enough to serve the sprawling 23rd Congressional District, which stretches from San Antonio to El Paso. Gonzales defended his record and blasted Herrera as an unserious and offensive candidate.
Herrera said his campaign will pay for the recount, and if there's any additional cost, he'll cover it out of pocket.
"It's mostly an election accountability thing, to make sure all t's are crossed and i's dotted," the candidate said.
