Today's starting lineup

The best season in Texas A&M baseball history came so close to being something even bigger.

Appearing in the CWS title series for the first time, the Aggies came up just short of their first title.

"It's a tough one to swallow, even when you make it this far," A&M coach Jim Schlossnagle said after a 6-5 loss to Tennessee in Game 3. "Everybody wants to win their last game."

Perhaps a little on edge because of Texas A&M's success this year and before heading into the SEC next season, Texas made a change with its baseball program, moving on from coach David Pierce after eight seasons (and no titles.)

Of course, Schlossnagle was asked about the UT opening after the loss. He didn't like the question but said "he took the job at A&M to never take another job again."

At the major league level, the Astros have crept back to within two games of .500 as the Rockies come to town for a pair of games.

Matt Kawahara looks at the team's aggressive approach at the plate this season. A higher swing rate, fewer walks and some examples of it backfiring have turned attention toward the approach amid the Astros' uneven first half.

As the Rockets approach Wednesday's draft, and then free agency, they are focusing on keeping a large part of their roster intact. Jonathan Feigen explains.

Stat of the day: 51. The number of times Astros' outfielder Jake Meyers has put the first pitch of a plate appearance in play, a sign of a more aggressive approach. Only Jose Altuve has more.
