Today's starting lineup
Two of MLB's hottest teams met Friday in New York, so something had to give. It turned out to be the Astros' season-best winning streak of seven games. The Mets got to Ronel Blanco for three home runs, fueling a series-opening victory. Blanco saw an impressive individual streak end in the loss, with some bad luck tossed in. Jeremy Peña was involved in an unfortunate misplay while being interviewed during the Apple TV+ broadcast. Kyle Tucker's recovery from a shin contusion continues to be slow.
This week marks 10 years since a memorable Sports Illustrated cover declared the Astros would win the 2017 World Series. We look at how that helped launch the most memorable era in franchise history.

Strong run ends
Ronel Blanco had not given up more than five hits in a start all season until a loss to the Mets on Friday, with some tough luck mixed in.
- Streak snapped: The Astros' winning streak ends at seven games as the Mets ride the long ball to victory in their series opener.
- (Not) caught on film: A routine fly ball fell to the ground between Astros infielders Jeremy Peña and Alex Bregman during Peña's interview on Friday's Apple TV+ broadcast.
- Progress comes slow: Kyle Tucker is hitting off a tee and running on a treadmill but has yet to resume on-field activities nearly four weeks after fouling a ball off his right shin.
- Starting again: Luis Garcia, working his way back from Tommy John surgery, threw one inning for the Astros' Florida Complex League affiliate.
- Prediction revisited: Ten years ago this week, the woebegone Astros were predicted by Sports Illustrated to win the World Series in 2017, launching a memorable era for the franchise.
- Another Mr. 3,000? An updated look at the chances of Jose Altuve reaching 3,000 hits and becoming just the 34th member of that exclusive club.
