What is the Central American Gyre and how does it affect Texas?
After Tropical Storm Alberto, our meteorologists are already watching another tropical disturbance forming on the southern edge of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.
They're saying it has a 50 percent chance of becoming a cyclone over the next week. This disturbance is part of the Central American Gyre.
The Central American Gyre is a very large, low pressure system that develops in late spring over Central America and nearby waters.
Let's not worry just yet, our meteorologist Justin Ballard said, as Houston is going back to normal summer weather this weekend.
