What would you think of the Harris County Sheriff's Office using artificial intelligence to help with thousands of hours of body camera footage and non-emergency calls?

Officials there are considering it, as one of the agency's chief goals is to be on the forefront of AI technology in law enforcement.

Administrators at the sheriff's office said they see the biggest benefits are AI's ability to parse through vast quantities of data.

But agencies adopting AI hasn't been greeted with universal acclaim, as Houston Chronicle reporter Matt deGrood writes here.

Zach Harrell runs around the gym while doing physical therapy at TIRR Memorial Hermann-The Woodlands on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 in The Woodlands. Harrell was diagnosed at birth with thrombocytopenia-absent radius syndrome, a rare condition affecting one in 100,000 or 200,000 individuals. One symptom is that he is missing the radius bone in both arms (meaning he does not have use of his thumb and his arms are shortened). He was also born without kneecaps and had to have both legs amputated above the knee. None of this holds him back, however. He has learned to run on his blade prosthetics, has participated in Little League, swim team and tried adaptive skiing, surfing and kayaking.
