Today's starting lineup

We wrote earlier this week about the Astros' aggressive approach at the plate, but it was their patience that paid off on Saturday against the Mets.

Knowing that New York was down a pitcher, manager Joe Espada had a plan for his team to grind through at bats and get to the Mets' bullpen.

It worked as Houston made its biggest rally of the season for a 9-6 win that featured four walks in the eighth inning when the Astros took the lead for good.

For Espada, the win came against an old friend, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza. Matt Kawahara looks at the baseball bond that started with the Pensacola Pelicans in independent ball.

Today is a special day in Austin for the University of Texas, which has an over-sized party planned for its official welcome to the SEC. The Longhorns are carrying some bravado into the new league, but Kirk Bohls says they have what it takes to back it up.

Sunday is also the start of NBA free agency. While Houston may not be that active, there are some big names on the market. Jonathan Feigen breaks it down.

Tomball's Asher Hong told his parents when he was 6 that he wanted to be an Olympian. Now, he is. Hong was named to the U.S. men's gymnastics team after a tense two days at the U.S. trials. The women's final competition is Sunday. Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles have been key figures to a group of younger hopefuls from the World Champions Centre in Spring where they all train.

And in Great Britain, UH sprinter Louie Hinchliffe qualified for Paris by winning the 100 to represent his native country.

In soccer, the Dynamo earned a 1-0 win over FC Charlotte. The Dynamo are unbeaten in their last six matches. Argentina also won its group in Copa América to advance to the quarterfinals at NRG. But the big question is if Lionel Messi will be available to play.

Stat of the day: 5. Biggest deficit of the season that the Astros have overcome to win. Houston trailed 6-1 on Saturday before coming back to win 9-6.
