Today's starting lineup

Trailing after seven innings usually has spelled doom for the Astros in 2024. They bucked that season-long trend Monday night by rallying for four runs in the eighth inning, with Yainer Diaz delivering a tiebreaking two-run homer, for a series-opening win over the Cardinals. That came despite Kyle Tucker's departure after fouling a ball off his leg. Before the game, general manager Dana Brown doubled down on his belief the team wouldn't be a trade-deadline seller. Monday marked the 10-year anniversary of Jon Singleton's MLB debut in a career that has defied convention. The Cardinals' first visit to Houston in eight years also marked a homecoming for rookie shortstop Masyn Winn, who grew up a big Astros fan in Kingwood.

Texans receiver Tank Dell discusses the night he was shot at a Florida bar this offseason. Former Cowboys guard and Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Allen dies suddenly at age 52.

In a busy year for him, decorated UH sprinter Shaun Maswanganyi eyes the one thing missing on his résumé.

The Texas softball team clinches a berth in the championship round of the Women's College World Series.

The Caitlin Clark drama that generated lots of talk over the weekend? It's good for the WNBA, writes columnist Scott Ostler.

Landry Locker, a longtime co-host on Sports Radio 610's midday show, announced he has departed the station.
