Dodging trouble
The Astros' pitching depth is starting to wear thin but the good news is Spencer Arrighetti seems fine after being hit on his left leg with a line drive, leading to his early exit in Tuesday's win over St. Louis.
- Just enough: The Astros open up a big lead on the Cardinals and Bryan Abreu and Ryan Pressly shut the door late to seal Houston's second consecutive win in the series.
- Long-term absence: The hits to the Astros' rotation keep coming as Cristian Javier will undergo Tommy John surgery later this week, per a report Tuesday.
- Held out: One night after fouling a ball off his shin, Kyle Tucker was not in the Astros' lineup for the second of the three-game series against the Cardinals.
- Trey in, Grae out: In the wake of Kyle Tucker's shin contusion, the Astros recalled Trey Cabbage from Triple-A Sugar Land to add some outfield depth as Grae Kessinger is sent down.
- Deal brings reunion: Nick Hernandez, an Astros draft pick who pitched five seasons in their system, was reacquired in a trade with the Padres.
- Gambling infraction: Oakland reliever Michael Kelly is suspended for a year for betting on games during the 2021 postseason while he was a member of the Astros' minor league system.
