Today's starting lineup

We keep looking for that win by the Astros that will spark the rest of the season.

Houston certainly had a good one on Tuesday, beating the Giants 3-1 behind strong pitching from Ronel Blanco and a save by Ryan Pressley, who has certainly struggled this year.

But what might be the most notable part of the game was some of that 'Jose Altuve magic.'

This time, it wasn't one of his leadoff homers but a slow grounder that scored the first run of the game. The pitch was nearly two feet off the plate but Altuve reached out and made contact and put the ball in the perfect spot.

Alex Bregman was the next man up. Here's his conversation with Giants catcher Patrick Bailey:

"Bailey just asked me when I got to the plate, like, how did he hit that ball? I said, 'I don't know. That's just what he does.'"

After last week's minicamp, the Texans won't be back in official action until training camp next month. Jonathan M. Alexander answers readers questions and takes stock of where the team stands in his mailbag.

High school sports in Texas just got bigger. The UIL voted to expand the playoffs for basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball into two divisions like it does in football. So, four teams will make the postseason from each district and there will be two state champions in each class.

USA Basketball made the women's roster official for the Paris Olympics. As expected, it went with veterans like Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi over the popular but relatively inexperienced Caitlin Clark. Danielle Lerner takes a look at the team and the process.

Stat of the day: 4-29. The Astros record this season when scoring three or fewer runs.

  • Astros 3, Giants 1: Ronel Blanco allowed one run over six innings, and Ryan Pressly worked a clean ninth as the Astros beat the Giants to end a frustrating two-game skid.
  • Slow recovery: It's been more than a week since Kyle Tucker fouled a ball off his shin, throwing into question whether he'll return as soon as eligible Friday.
  • Lingering pain: Catcher Yainer Diaz says there is still some pain in his finger after being hit by a foul tip on Sunday in Anaheim and hopes to avoid injured list.
  • Backup plan: The addition of  César Salazar is an indication that Yainer Diaz is still bothered by finger he hurt against Angels on Sunday.
