New power plant planned for Sugar Land

Sugar Land might have a new 135-megawatt power plant by 2025, according to city officials.
The city is leasing land to a company for a $146 million power plant that can quickly restore power, no matter the weather.
Sugar Land Mayor Joe Zimmerman said that the deaths during Winter Storm Uri in 2021 were the key reason behind the city's decision to construct its own power plant.
If everything goes according to plan, construction could start in 2025, with the plant operational by the end of 2027.
Mayor Zimmerman mentioned that the city is in the early stages of planning a power plant and will keep residents regularly updated as things move forward.
