Trade rumors
In the Cheap Seats, Chron sports writers answer burning questions from readers.
Does a trade for Donovan Mitchell make sense for the Rockets?
Chron sports editor Josh Criswell:
ESPN's Brian Windhorst recently mentioned the Rockets as a potential suitor for Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, a five-time All-Star who is entering the final year of his contract. The Cavaliers are reportedly hopeful they'll be able to reach a contract extension with Mitchell. If not, Houston will be a popular destination in trade rumors, given the organization's draft capital and collection of young talent.
Whether Mitchell makes sense for the Rockets is a different discussion. The 27-year-old would bring immediate star power to a team that has just one combined All-Star Game appearance across its entire roster. But unless he agrees to an extension that will keep him in Houston long-term, it might not be worth the risk.
