There was some rain inside Minute Maid Park before the Astros went for a sweep against the A's but the teams played on. Houston got a strong start from Cristian Javier and Joey Loperfido's first homer in the majors to take an 8-1 victory, their fifth in a row. The NL Central-leading Brewers come to town next and will likely be a tougher test of the Astros' resurgence.
Before the game, Ronel Blanco explained why he didn't appeal his 10-game suspension for a foreign substance found on his glove during Tuesday's game. He said the rosin he had on his left arm mixed with sweat and had gotten into his glove. A right-hander, Blanco said he didn't know he could not put on rosin on his non-throwing arm.

Apple of the league's eye
The Texans are a hot NFL product right now, as evidenced by the record number of nationally televised games they got on the 2024 schedule.
- Dinging Dallas: The Texans use their schedule release video to troll their intrastate foes in Dallas.
- Different strokes for different folks: The NFL blackballed former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick but probably won't do a thing about Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker's comments aimed at keeping women out of the workplace and LGBTQ folks in the closet, writes columnist Scott Ostler.

Not hearing it
Don't tell forward Ron Holland, who opted to play for the G League Ignite over the University of Texas, that any class with him in it is weak.
- Timberwolves 115, Nuggets 70: Anthony Edwards scored 27 points to pull Minnesota out of its mid-series slump and deliver a flawless victory over defending NBA champion Denver to force a Game 7 in their roller-coaster playoff matchup.
