Their margin for error continued to be very thin as the Astros lost once again to the Mariners, failing to score in extra innings only to see Seattle walk off a third straight win in the series.

Little margin for error

Another night in Seattle brought another tight loss for the Astros, with their failures to execute with runners in scoring position looming large Wednesday.

  • Held in check again: The Astros' bats scuffled again as Justin Verlander got a lack of run support. Seattle then executed in the 10th inning to win its third straight in the series.
  • Savoring his second act: After ditching his minor league career, new Astros pitcher Alex Speas coached a youth team in 2022 and saw baseball's joys anew, bringing him back to pro ball.
  • Another step in rehab: Astros right-hander Luis Garcia will take the next step in his recovery from Tommy John surgery by throwing live batting practice later this week.
