Today's starting lineup
Before the Astros' night derailed in disastrous fashion Tuesday, Hunter Brown gave his team just what it had been looking for. The young right-hander turned in his best start of the season in Seattle, allowing one run and striking out nine in six innings. But in the second frame after he departed, things unraveled in an eighth inning from hell, sending Houston to its second straight loss against the AL West leaders.
The Texans kept a cornerstone in the fold, agreeing to a three-year, $72 million contract extension with wide receiver Nico Collins, who had a breakthrough performance in his third season.
Forever rivals Texas and Texas A&M were back under the same conference umbrella at the SEC meetings in Florida. The reality of being in the SEC has dawned on the Longhorns and football coach Steve Sarkisian — and it's cause for excitement in Austin. New A&M coach Mike Elko says the Aggies retained enough talent from the Jimbo Fisher era to have a "really special" team. During a rapidly changing time in college sports, adding Texas and Oklahoma is something to celebrate for the SEC.
Simone Biles seems like a lock, but who else will join her in Paris on the U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics team?

Positive in defeat
With injury questions to their rotation, Hunter Brown gave the Astros reason for optimism Tuesday before a bullpen letdown led to a loss in Seattle.
- Late letdown: Things unraveled on the mound and defensively for the Astros in the eighth inning as they lost for the second straight night in Seattle.
- Different deployment: Putting Yordan Alvarez in left field, where he played his second straight game Tuesday at Seattle, affords manager Joe Espada flexibility with the DH spot.
- Another arm for farm: The Astros made a move to bolster their minor league pitching depth, claiming right-hander Kaleb Ort off waivers from Baltimore.
- New statistical markers: Josh Gibson became Major League Baseball's career leader with a .372 batting average as records of the Negro Leagues for more than 2,300 players were incorporated after a three-year research project.

Excitement matching expectations
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian got his first official taste of the Longhorns as an SEC member at the league meetings in Florida and he says the excitement is palpable.
- 'Special' foundation in place? First-year A&M coach Mike Elko says the Aggies have "a lot of talented players" remaining from the Jimbo Fisher era who are not happy with how the last two years have gone.
- Celebration on tap: In an era of rapid change across college sports, the SEC is making sure to celebrate adding Texas and Oklahoma to the league.
