Today's starting lineup

After the Texans sat out the opening night of the NFL draft, things picked up for the local squad Friday. Jonathan M. Alexander writes that the Texans filled some needs but not their biggest on the interior defensive line. Here's what you need to know about Friday's draftees: Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter, Notre Dame tackle Blake Fisher and USC safety Calen Bullock.

Friday night was also eventful for players from Houston schools and Texas colleges. Patrick Paul, from UH and Jersey Village, got his wish and was plucked by the Dolphins in the second round. A trio of Texas players — T'Vondre Sweat, Jonathon Brooks and Adonai Mitchell — made it five Longhorns draftees in two days. Texas A&M had two defenders drafted. And Rice's Luke McCaffrey became the latest draftee in his decorated football family.

The Astros are south of the border for two games in Mexico City against the Rockies beginning today, providing MLB a chance to expand its brand. J.P. France, was sent back to Triple-A on Friday, ostensibly clearing a spot for Framber Valdez's return to the starting rotation.

Today's college football analysis series looks at the offensive lines for Texas and Texas A&M, and our UH series concludes with special teams.

Stat of the day: 3. Offensive linemen from UH selected in the first two rounds of the draft. They are Billy Milner (Dolphins, 1994 first round), Sebastian Vollmer (Patriots, 2009 second round) and Patrick Paul (Dolphins, 2024 second round).
